Homework
Reading
- Children will bring home a book in their book bag each day, please listen to them read this or they may read it to a sibling, a pet or a toy, however if they are not reading it with you, can you please discuss the book with them. Focus on the 5w questions: who, what, where, when, why and also how. If your child is a very capable reader they may choose to read a book of their choice rather than the book from school, if your child is one of these children, they will know.
- Spelling words will be glued into the back of their notebooks, please help them to spell these words both aloud and by writing them down and encourage them to use the words in a sentence. These words are from the essential spelling lists.
- There will be 10 basic facts questions glued into the centre of their notebook each week, these can be practiced with fingers or counters but the idea of them is to practice them often enough that they become known facts (like times tables).
- Try to encourage your child to do real life maths during the day, this could be counting how many steps it takes to get from the lounge to their bedroom, how long it takes them to brush their teeth, how many things they could buy at the supermarket if they had $2. Or counting forwards, backwards or in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s while you are stuck in traffic.
